History

Since the birth and growth of the New Testament Church in the Book of Acts, Christian education has been of the utmost importance in the life of the church.  Likewise, from the founding of Bethany Missionary Baptist Church in 1910, to the present generations of spirit-filled, committed individuals have worked tirelessly to carry out the mandate of Acts 1:8 to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and teach God’s Word to believers at every opportunity.

God’s Word not only shows us the way to His marvelous salvation through Jesus Christ, but once saved it helps us to understand who we were, whom we belong to, and God’s divine purpose for our lives.  As we study the Bible, we find that we have become the children of God (1 John 3:1-2), temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19), the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13) the light of the world (Matthew 5:14-16), and we’re bought with a price (1 Cor. 6:20).  We discover that we are new creatures in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17), a chosen generation, a peculiar people, a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9-10), and servants of the Most High God (Matthew 25:14-30:20, Galatians 2:20).  Like soldiers and athletes, we are called to discipline ourselves through the study and application of God’s Holy Word.  In order to train our children to live Godly lives, (Proverbs 22:6) and be living examples of Christ (Romans 12:1-2), we must be students of the Word ourselves.  Those who have neglected to obey the Word and fail to take advantage of the many opportunities to know and live God’s Word are not only missing out on a deeper relationship and appreciation of God, but will also be held accountable for their lack of diligence (Matthew 25).
