History

After one year and three months as Pastor, Rev. Alpheus L. Bright saw a need for a group to be organized with the purpose of assisting to sustain and support the upkeep and maintenance of the church.  On the first Sunday of May year 1960, Reverend Bright appointed Ms. Bernice Davis to lead this group.  The group started with only a few women but over the years has expanded its membership to 35 and is represented by both men and women.

Ms. Davis remained president from May 1960, until December 2001, after which time she was named President Emeritus.  In the 45 years of service, the ministry has only had two Presidents, Ms. Davis and the current President, Lucille Banks.

The Pyramid Ministry adopted as its beneficiary the Church’s Building Fund.  To this end the group remains faithful in making regular and substantial contributions to the Building Fund, while striving to enrich Christian fellowship. Rev. Bright challenged this Ministry to be creative in the efforts to raise money for Bethany, and the member met that goal by sponsoring an annual fashion show luncheon and organizing special trips.

Several of the original members with us today;  Marion Baker, Francis White, Wilhelmina Morton, Bernadine Bright, Alma Thrower, Esther Brown, Greta Turner, Ruth Jefferson and Mabel Turner continuing to give their support to the efforts and work of the Pyramid Ministry.

If you are interested in joining this ministry, please see Mrs. Lucille Banks for more information.
